A guide/commentary on how to beat Ribby and Croaks from the Clip Joint Calamity stage without taking damage in Cuphead.
This is on the Regular difficulty in Cuphead, using the Peashooter weapon and the Smoke Dash charm.
Ribby and Croaks tips
Phase 1
– Ribby attack 0:23 , fist projectiles on three levels (low, middle, high). For the middle and high projectiles crouch to avoid. The low just needs jumping over. For no damage I’d recommend not going for the parryable projectiles as it can be difficult to return to the ground safetly avoiding the oncoming projectiles.
– Croaks attack 0:36, spawns flaming mobs which afterwards try to drop down for contact damage. Fire diagonally as they spawn to get rid of as soon as possible, some may filter through in which case walk underneath and fire vertically, should be time before Ribby does another attack.
Phase 2
– Projectiles 1:04, the projectiles Ribby fires either start with a bounce or go immediately up. You should go underneath them going towards Ribby at the first opportuntiy, immediately after the bounce or for the other version going underneath after the projectile has spawned. Croaks does push you back with his fan move, but just walk counter to it and being aware of him stopping and starting, even using it to go under the projectiles.
Phase 3
– Coins 1:38, Stay on the ground as much as possible using the smoke dash to avoid/i-frame the coins, only jumping to parry the lever just after a coin has been fired so he cannot fire one whilst you are in the air, as this is where it’s easy to get hit.
– Green platforms 1:48, there are 23 platforms that get faster. Jump onto the first platform and then jumping every 2nd platform, at the start you’ll need to jump a reasonable distance to reach the next platform but as it progresses the jump distance should be less and less eventually jumping vertically on the last couple as the speed of the platforms will make them go underneath you.
– Red platforms 2:09, there are 11 platforms. The platforms with laser firing above you can crouch to avoid, the platforms with lasers firing below you will have to jump on and possibly from platform to platform if they appear back-to-back. When you need to get of the platform (e.g., when an up-laser follows a down-laser platform), let the left wall push you off as the platform moves off screen, this allows you to not have to mess about with moving off and correcting distance as well as going into an immediate crouch.
– Yellow Platforms 3:32, there are 10 platforms. The platforms fire balls vertically which then drop down again. Jump underneath the fired balls, landing in the gap between platforms and walk backwards to give yourself space, repeating. The gap between the platforms will lessen as the attack goes on. With the 10th one you can just smoke dash to i-frame through.
