A guide/commentary on how to beat the Micolash, Host of the Nightmare boss fight without taking a hit in Bloodborne.

Requires: Poison Knives (or a plentiful amount of Throwing Knives/Molotov Cocktails) – Bolt Paper/Beast Blood Pellets useful for speeding up sections

Micolash tips

Phase 1

– Skeletons: You want to kill any you aggro as they will follow. Attack as they are rising up and preferably with horizontal/sweep attacks as they can drift quickly to the side. They can also break apart before their full health bar is depleted, so wait for them to get up again to finish off.

– When you approach Micolash he will either go up or right;

– Right: Follow him and he will go into the room behind. Kill the skeleton outside the room before continuing in.

– Up: Follow killing skeletons as you meet, when he runs down the stairs on the other side, backtrack and head down the right path, (left from your perspective), as you would from earlier.

– Enter the room to aggro Micolash so he will follow and enter the in-between corridor. (This is the time to buff if you have items)

– Tentacle attack: In this phase this is his only attack, and can be easily avoided by walking to the side. Has a long but narrow hitbox, so sidestep.

– Once he is in the smaller room, attack when his back is against one of the walls. You don’t want to strike while he has space behind, as he can backstep and attack quickly. Continue attacking and dodging until about half his health bar is done and he will disappear.

– Before doing enough damage to start 2nd phase you could throw poison knives to poison him, (if you have spare but not necessary), which would continue to do damage whilst you make your way to his 2nd phase position

Phase 2

– After he disappears, exit the room and head up the stairs on the right through the fog gate door.

– Head up the stairs on the right. (There is a scurrying beast (upgrade materials mob) down the stairs if needed, be careful of mobs at the very bottom though).

– The first mob you come across you want to lead down the stairs. When it does a jumping attack, be out of range then run past after the attack.

– The second mob will be further up with a crossbow, you want to run into the corner on the left wall just before the mob. If it shoots the bolt will hit the pillar in front, then run past. If it just stands there, run past anyway.

– Head up the stairs to Micolash, who will either go left or up;

– Left: Will drop down into a small room, foloow but don’t drop down from here throw poison knives and wait for poison to kill. Can also throw Throwing Knives & Molotov Cocktails but P.Knives are best.

– Up: He will go into the mirror, so from here you want to go right. Drop through hole in floor coming across 2 skeletons. Kill the first as it gets up, the 2nd will already be formed so shoot to knockdown then finish as it gets up.

– Micolash will be in the center of the next room, you want to walk out slowly hugging the right wall walking past him. There will be a skeleton getting up in front, approach slowly and shoot to knock down. Kill before turning to Micolash’s back.

– Position behind him, (buff if you have extra items), and shoot or throw a throwing knife at his back. He will disappear and spawn from the mirror behind, strike once and this will be an infinite loop until he dies.

– (If anything goes wrong e.g. he gets away into the normal final room, I’d recommend Mark-ing out/teleporting back to the lamp and restarting the fight over)
